Organizational Governance
The Baseline Institute has experience developing new governance processes as well as working to revise governance approaches to align with organization needs. Governance is about how power is distributed within an organization: who holds power, how that power is wielded and how that power is held accountable. We believe that the role of governance is to be in service of the organization’s mission and vision, not an inhibitor.
Policy Development and Analysis
Policy is the codification of the values of a community, organization and their stakeholders. We have over a decade of public sector policy development, implementation and analysis. Our policy work spans the development of community climate and resilience planning processes to the drafting of ordinances to creating administrative rules for policy implementation to turning lofty visions into enforceable policy.
Program Implementation
Kumar Jensen has 15 years of experience implementing public sector (non-profit & local government) programs. Past and current program examples include: Implementation of Environmental Justice fellowships, community engagement campaigns, running community energy campaigns (community solar, electricity aggregation, bill pay assistance, benchmarking ordinances, etc.), community planning processes, resident-led environmental monitoring.
Local Government Climate Policy
Climate policy extends beyond the standard approaches to looking at societal systems in isolation. Strong climate policy is the work of understanding and integrating a community’s history, values and vision into approaches that ameliorate past harm and set the stage for flourishing. Local governments play a central role in many aspects of community members lives and we believe that work at the local level has the potential to be the most impactful.
Equity Facilitation, Strategizing and Coaching
The Baseline Institute firmly believes that centering racial equity in all of our work is the only pathway that leads to a just future for communities. We offered individualized coaching support to organizations and individuals seeking to begin, deepen, and/or expand their racial equity journeys. We work with organizations committed to developing and implementing racial equity strategies internally and throughout their programs. We also offering meeting, convening and collaboration facilitation services for hybrid, in-person or remote projects.
